The final phase of the proposed methodology is the application of Knowledge Management as specified in the previous phases. It is proposed to gradually introduce the new discipline to the organization through some initial pilot projects before the company-wide roll out. The reason for this is to gain experience through the pilot projects, resolve infant diseases and get ready for the next big step.

Instead of implementing the design immediately across the whole organization, a pilot implementation is strongly proposed, in order to learn from a smaller scale initiative and avoid costly mistakes that might occur otherwise. The fundamental decision that has to be taken at this step is the selection of the pilot initiative. When selecting the appropriate pilot application there are two major options available. You can either select a designed action, (e.g. the application of a Content Management System) and apply it across all the different functions that it affects or select a function and implement all the different actions that were designed in its support. This step comprises the final step of the methodology that aims at the establishment of Knowledge Management throughout the organization. The organization, based on the experience of the previous step, goes beyond partial small scale pilot projects and applies the designed structures, processes and systems towards the achievement of the Knowledge Management vision and goals.
