KM in Practice

About Us

KMinPractice.com is a not-profit initiative that started in March 2008 and is dedicated to developing and sharing knowledge about Knowledge Management. In doing so, it is focused on presenting a Knowledge Management implementation approach and in this way aspires to trigger a discussion about standardization in KM that will ultimately increase the field’s maturity level.

Other, relative subjects of interest include:

  • Human Resource issues
  • Information and Knowledge Technology issues
  • Information Management issues
  • Process Management issues

Mission

KMinPractice.com aims to become a hub for the Knowledge Management community. Its central objective is to provide an environment where researchers and practitioners can get together, create and share knowledge about knowledge management issues, and finally support the refinement of the proposed KMinPractice approach.

More specifically, the objectives of KMinPractice include:

  • Raising a discussion about standardization in the field of Knowledge Management and its relation to improved organizational performance.
  • Contributing toward the achievement of a widely accepted consensus in the field.
  • Contributing to more successful initiatives which is considered as the only way to refute any criticism about KM.
  • Identifying and communicating existing KM open issues.
  • Providing the ground for the mutual development of its members through the exchange of ideas.

Guiding Principles

KMinPractice.com is based on the belief that in order to take Knowledge Management a step further, the field has to be structured, through the development of a comprehensive and practical approach. The underlining assumption is that despite any difficulties and shortcomings it seems that the proper use of standardization can provide considerable advantages.

Given the eclectic and subjective nature of Knowledge Management, KMinPractice considers standardization in terms of common and widely accepted approaches that do not necessarily comply with the strict requirements of a standard.

Achieving the above described consensus is not an easy process and it is believed that a continuous and long dialogue is required. In this spirit, KMinPractice is an initiative based on participation and contribution.

Through our Web Site our members can contribute to this process in a number of ways, including:

  • Access a range of information resources, comment on them and finally create their own content.
  • Participate in surveys and discuss their results.
  • Establish relationships with other KM researchers and practitioners.
